Drew Starkey’s Career Before His Breakthrough

Drew Starkey is a 31-year-old actor, who was born in North Carolina, and started his acting career all the way back in 2014. Since he was still trying to find his feet, Starkey appeared in various supporting roles and continued to expand his filmography. Some might even remember seeing Drew in the teen drama movie Love, Simon, which was released in 2018, and in which the actor portrays one of the main character’s friends, Garrett.

Another of Starkey’s noteworthy appearances was in another coming-of-age teen drama movie, The Hate U Give. In the hard-hitting movie which explores racism and activism in a detailed way, Starkey stepped into the role of a cop called Brian MacIntosh, and acted alongside Amandla Stenberg. In 2019 followed his portrayal of Ryan in the thriller Mine 9, which tells the story of a group of minors fighting for their lives after a life-threatening methane explosion. Starkey clearly landed various smaller roles over the years, but his big break came not long after his appearance in Mine 9.

From Outer Banks to Hellraiser, let’s take a look at Drew Starkey’s 10 best performances, ranked.

Drew Starkey’s Most Famous Roles

The year 2020 turned Drew Starkey’s world upside down, as he landed his breakthrough role in the YA drama series Outer Banks, which was first released in the Spring of the same year. Embodying the role of Rafe Cameron, the ultimate rich kid on Kildare Island but also twisted brother to Sarah and lowkey culprit for the majority of the teen adventure series, Starkey has been delivering an outstanding performance from the very beginning.

Now in particular, since Outer Banks killed off the fan-favorite in Season 4, Starkey aka bad boy Rafe has turned into the MVP of OBX. Well, it’s difficult to forgive Rafe for all the insane things he put the Pogues through, but one glance of Drew’s buzz cut, which almost broke TikTok as it can be seen below, and handsome appearance is enough transform even the firmest anti-Kooks and anti-Rafes into Rafe-lovers.

At this point, it is almost impossible to imagine Hollywood without its newest heartthrob. It truly does seem as though everybody wants a piece of him, and his face is circulating around online as he has grown into the celebrity crush of the entire internet. When it was announced that Drew Starkey would be one of the main actors in the A24 movie Queer, the expectations went through the roof and, frankly, they were met.

Even though he hasn’t been properly in the industry for that long, he has no problems whatsoever with keeping up with big names such as Daniel Craig. It is impressive how Starkey honors the intimate scenes in Queer, and smoothly dives into his role of Eugene Allerton, putting everything he has into delivering his very best performance.

Drew Starkey’s Upcoming Projects

It is needless to say that Drew Starkey is only getting started, as it is starting to look as though all of Hollywood would be keen on working with him. Fans can take a breath of relief, because Starkey’s Queer certainly isn’t the last we get to see of him. Even though he is currently riding the wave of appearing on screen next to Daniel Craig and is receiving an overwhelming amount of critical acclaim, Drew Starkey’s name is already connected to other upcoming projects.

Keeping the recent release of Season 4 of the YA drama series Outer Banks in mind, it has been made public that the chaotic journey of the Pogues and Kooks will continue. Outer Banks will return for a fifth season, which sadly will also be the last. However, as for Drew Starkey lovers, this might be the best one yet, as the last episode of the recent OBX season has set up the story in a way which will likely have a stronger focus on Starkey’s character Rafe. Drew Starkey’s return to Outer Banks clearly comes with a lot of relief and excitement, which is certainly needed to keep fans hooked after the intense backlash after Season 4 and the hectic drama between the Outer Banks cast.

Apart from continuing his role as Rafe in Outer Banks, Starkey has another exciting upcoming project attached to his name. Staying in the A24 universe, the Outer Banks star has landed another striking role, titled Onslaught, and it is said to fall into the category of action-thriller. While there isn’t much information regarding the extent of his involvement yet, Starkey definitely has already proven before that he handles the action genre extremely well. Greetings go out to Rafe, who definitely does some crazy stuff sometimes.

Drew Starkey has become one of the most demanded actors, and it’s truly not surprising. It doesn’t matter to which extent he appears on-screen, Starkey always stands out with his unique aura and intricate details he adds to his roles. Starkey has the eclectic acting skills to deliver a spot-on portrayal of even the most challenging roles, while keeping it all real and authentic. There is no doubt that he will continue to baffle his fans and appear in impressive projects. Queer is available to watch in theaters.
