It seems like the Duffer brothers, creators of Netflix’s insanely popular series Stranger Things, are finally lending their talents to other projects. With their worldwide phenomenon of a show coming to a close soon, the two brothers have room on their plate for new, exciting projects, in collaboration with the streamer that gave them their name, of course. The dynamic duo, Matt and Ross Duffer, recently made an appearance on Netflix’s globally live-streamed 2025 film and TV preview event and gave audiences an idea of where they’re going next. If you liked Stranger Things, it’s extremely promising.
While the event mainly focused on the upcoming, emotional final season of Stranger Things, the brothers also revealed what’s on the horizon, Entertainment Weekly reports. . Along with a teaser for the long-awaited Season 5, a franchise expansion featuring other stories in the world of Stranger Things was confirmed for audiences. But perhaps even more exciting than that, fans of the Duffers got some new details about not one, but two new projects: The Boroughs and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. Regarding the former, Matt Duffer said:
“[The Boroughs] probably shares the most DNA with Stranger Things, because it’s about a group of misfits who fight an otherworldly evil.”

Matthew Modine’s Dr. Brenner will be coming back from the dead for ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5, and fans want to know why.
Rather than being set in a high school, however, The Boroughs will be based in a retirement community, with a slew of talented older actors making another endearing group of misfits for the Duffer brothers to make us fall in love with. Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Bill Pullman, and apparently many more are already set to star in the epic and emotional series. Seniors fighting otherworldly evil? Count us in.
The Duffer Brothers Are Finally Expanding Their Portfolio And It Couldn’t Be More Exciting
The pair’s other producing project, Something Bad Is Going to Happen, also sticks to their fruitful niche of the ordinary facing the extraordinary in the form of an engaged couple struggling with the unknown horror of eternal commitment. However, The Boroughs seems to be much closer in form to the ensemble structure and supernatural forces of Stranger Things. After it received a formal greenlight in April 2024, the Duffer brothers released a statement saying:
“While the heroes in The Boroughs have a few more years on them than the kids from Stranger Things, they are a similarly lovable bunch of misfits, and we can’t wait for you to join them on an adventure that is at turns scary, funny, and deeply touching.”
Some fans can’t wait much longer for more of the Duffer brothers. However, with no confirmed release date for the monumental fifth season of Stranger Things, fans are getting desperate. These exciting new projects might be enough to satiate fans until the release of Season 5. At least they can rest easy knowing that the Duffer brothers aren’t going anywhere, except to the shuffle-board match.
