Taylor Sheridan's 'Yellowstone' Spin-Off 'Marshals' Unnderperforms on Paramount+'s Streaming Charts

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone franchise isn’t slowing down anytime soon, but the latest spin-off has faced a major setback on streaming. When Yellowstone ended in 2024 after five seasons, fans were desperate to be reunited with the immediate Dutton family. 1883 and 1923 are both amazing shows, but fans really want to be back with the characters they fell in love with in Taylor Sheridan’s core series. Dutton Ranch will put Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) back on our screens (eventually). But, before that, everyone’s favorite, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), is leading his own series.

The first episode of Marshals was recently released on CBS and Paramount+. But it’s already struggling to live up to Yellowstone and Taylor Sheridan’s other shows, like Landman. When the fifth season of Yellowstone dropped in 2024, it topped Paramount+’s weekly streaming chart each week, as did Landman‘s second season in 2025. But Marshals hasn’t reached the same heights. Following its first episode, Marshals is only the third most popular show on the platform this week. The never-ending crime procedural, NCIS, is currently in second, with the endlessly controversial South Park in first. Usually, the release of a new Yellowstone spin-off causes the core show to re-emerge on the streaming charts. But Yellowstone is notably absent from the Top 10.

Luke Grimes leads Marshals as the prodigal son of the Dutton family, Kayce. Brecken Merrill also reprises his role as Tate. The series also stars Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, and Tatanka Means. Spencer Hudnut is the showrunner, with Taylor Sheridan co-writing the series and serving as Executive Producer. Having finally found his purpose, Kayce leads a team of U.S. Marshals in Montana, as he struggles to keep his personal and professional lives separate.

‘Marshals’ Might Be the Worst ‘Yellowstone’ Series So Far

Before ‘Marshals’ fans start throwing rocks at the screen and leaving negative comments on this article, the above headline isn’t the opinion of one upstart writer. As well as holding the Taylor Sheridan fan base in the palm of its hand, Yellowstone was also a major critical success, with an 83% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

Marshals wishes it were held in the same regard. The latest Taylor Sheridan series holds a measly 46% critics’ score on RT. In those cases, there’s usually a vast disparity between critics’ and audiences’ opinions. Unfortunately, in Marshals‘ case, even hardcore fans are piling onto the hate. The show holds a slightly better audience rating of 47% (yaaay, improvement).

‘Marshals’ Is Already Controversial Among ‘Yellowstone’ Fans

As well as angering fans with its overall quality, Marshals has also angered Yellowstone fans with one major plot reveal. Without revealing too much, the Yellowstone series finale left one character’s fate open-ended. Come Marshals, their fate has been revealed, and it’s incredibly underwhelming. Don’t believe us, watch the first episode of Marshals and see for yourself — you might even bump it up a place on the streaming chart.
