But S24 sales remain strong

During its Q4 2024 earnings call, Samsung executives covered a range of topics — from semiconductor performance to the potential impact of the Trump administration on the company. But most importantly, Samsung dropped a big hint about its upcoming foldables (via Jukanlosreve).

When asked about the MX Division’s (Mobile eXperience) plans, which handles smartphones and mobile-related products, Samsung confirmed that it will release “new foldable products” in the second half of 2025 with “improved form factors, enhanced durability, and a diversified lineup to broaden the customer base.”

Samsung is rumored to launch an affordable Galaxy Z Flip FE this year

The key takeaways here are improved form factors and a more diverse lineup. Despite having a head start in the foldable market, Samsung has fallen behind as other brands have introduced thinner and more refined foldables over the past couple of years. While the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition comes close to competing with non-US market alternatives, the mainstream Galaxy Z Fold 6 still lags behind the competition.

It looks like Samsung is aiming to fix that this year, though rumors suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 7 won’t bring major upgrades over its predecessor. However, Samsung’s mention of a diversified lineup aligns with leaks suggesting the company is planning to launch a more affordable flip-style foldable.

A slimmer design or more mature foldable software?

If true, this could mean the long-rumored Galaxy Z Flip FE is actually happening. Previous leaks have indicated that the budget-friendly foldable could launch alongside the rest of the Galaxy Z lineup later this year. It’s also been rumored to feature the same chipset as the Galaxy S24 and borrow the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s display.

Samsung also stated that its new foldables, combined with the Galaxy S25 series, could drive “double-digit growth” in flagship sales in 2025. Additionally, the company hinted at expanding Galaxy AI features to mid-to-low-tier devices this year.

Until now, most Galaxy AI features have been reserved for flagship models, but this could mean Samsung plans to bring them to mid-range A-series and other budget devices.

Samsung’s latest foldable takes some cues from the Galaxy S24 Ultra, with a boxier design and an all-matte finish. It features a slightly wider cover display for a more comfortable typing experience, as well as new Galaxy AI features and an upgraded ultra-wide camera.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is Samsung’s most evolved take yet on the flip-style foldable form factor. Its 3.4-inch AMOLED cover screen supports Galaxy AI features without opening the device, along with upgraded widgets and suggested replies, but its gorgeous 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED folding display will still have you flipping the phone open quite a bit.
