With both Netflix and Disney cracking down on password sharing, it seems more companies are following suit. However, Max subscribers will have less time than they first thought. The company has confirmed that anti-sharing countermeasures will begin as early as next week, despite claiming beforehand that they would begin in 2025.
Max Will Begin Its Password Sharing Crackdown Next Week
As reported by our sister website How-To Geek, Max first announced its plans to prevent password sharing in November. The company stated it would begin giving out warnings in early 2025; however, it appears the company has gotten a little impatient, as it has accelerated the process to start next week.
Fortunately, account sharers won’t be in immediate trouble. Max’s plans involve an initial wave of gentle reminders, prepping people for what’s to come. The company initially plans to target only accounts with the most shared usage, but will eventually roll out the notice to everyone who shares their password.
Once the gentle approach is over, Max is expected to begin taking action in 2025 and into 2026. At the same time, it will offer a plan that allows the account holder to add shared slots at an additional fee, a similar strategy to the one Disney used in September.
If you’re involved with Max account sharing, now would be the perfect time to consider what to do next. For example, perhaps it’s time to jump to one of the many streaming services that allow password sharing.
