Gemini on Google TVs has been a major upgrade over the now-retired Google Assistant, allowing users to ask Gemini more complex natural-language commands that suit the TV platform well. As an example, you could ask Gemini about the new medical drama that everyone has been talking about, or even find something to watch with two preferred categories (comedies and dramas, as an example) in mind. With that context aside, Google shared at CES 2026 that it is upgrading Gemini to be more useful for TVs and expanding it to more platforms.
According to a blog post from Google, the Gemini for TV experience will soon be displayed through a new “visually rich framework” that adapts Gemini’s responses to your questions with imagery, videos, and even real-time updates for topics like sports. Google shared that there will also be “Deep dives,” which will provide narrated, interactive overviews, “simplified for the whole family.” To activate the deep dive, there will be a “Dive deeper” button that comes with the query.
Google TV users will soon be able to skip navigating through complex settings menus by using natural language commands to optimize settings. According to Google, all it takes is telling Gemini that “The screen is too dim” or “the dialogue is lost” to adjust both the picture and sound without leaving the film or show you’re watching.
Interestingly, users can now also use Gemini to search their Google Photos library for specific people or moments. With this new integration, users will be able to apply artistic styles to their photos via the widely adopted Photos Remix feature. From my point of view, I could see this being used by some families who want to mess around with more amusing photos, or even some who wish to view and touch up family vacation or holiday photos.
Google TV users will also be able to transform memories into cinematic slideshows using Gemini, all straight from their TV. Interestingly, users can now also use Gemini on their Google TV to reimagine personal photos or even create original media using Nano Banana and Veo.
Google states that the new features will be first introduced on select TCL devices, with other Google TV devices set to join the foray in the coming months. Google also said that Gemini will be added to Projectors in the coming months, but there is no concrete timeline beyond this.
