It’s no biggie for Andor creator Tony Gilroy that David Harbour just dropped out of his new movie, because the one and only Will Arnett is here to save the day. Yep, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Arrested Development favorite Arnett has replaced Harbour in Behemoth!, which is described as a “love letter to the music of the movies and the people who make it.” Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), Olivia Wilde (Cowboys & Aliens), Eva Victor (Billions), Matthew Lillard (Five Nights at Freddy’s), Alexa Swinton (Maestro), Margarite Levieva (Task), and Barry Livingston (The Social Network) are the rest of the confirmed cast members.
Gilroy, who boasts Oscar nominations for directing George Clooney in legal thriller Michael Clayton, was recently asked about Pascal’s commitment to the part of musician Alex Serian by carrying around a cello out in public. “He’s a cellist in the film. He’s practicing the cello very diligently and plus, we want him to be able to carry the cello anywhere he can,” he told Lovett or Leave It.
“When we did The Devil’s Advocate, when Keanu [Reeves] first came in I remember we were like, ‘He’s gonna be a lawyer? Oh my God…’, and I remember Taylor Hackford said three months out: ‘You gotta put a suit on now and you’re never f****** taking that suit off until we start shooting’, because he looked so weird in a suit. Three months later, he’d worn a suit everywhere he ever went and he had, like, it worked. And carrying a cello case will turn you into a cellist if you do it long enough.”
Will Arnett Leads Bradley Cooper’s New Comedy-Drama ‘Is This Thing On?’
Behemoth! recruit Arnett exclusively spoke to MovieWeb in promotion of his latest movie Is This Thing On? last month, where he explained how the inspired-by-true-events drama — UK comedian John Bishop’s life story provided the basis for the narrative — examines the breakdown of a relationship in surprisingly authentic ways. The 55-year-old claimed it’s less about how the couple gets to that point, but instead focuses on them trying to move forward.
“That was something that was really important to us, because we didn’t need to see that we could get to later and understand how they had gone to that place. But to start at that point was really, really important to us, so that you do feel, as you say, dropped into the middle of it. There’s something about that we trust the audience, that they understand that, and we’ve all, a lot of us have been there and experienced these emotions, and it’s not always some big, crazy, dramatic breakup. Generally, it’s sadder, because they usually are.”
Is This Thing On? is directed by Bradley Cooper and orbits a middle-aged man named Alex Novak, who decides to try his hand at standup comedy as a way of coping with his impending divorce. Laura Dern (Marriage Story), Sean Hayes (Will & Grace), Amy Sedaris (BoJack Horseman), Andra Day (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), and Ciarán Hinds (There Will Be Blood) also star.
